Construction on a new Dollar General location in Red House is currently underway.

According to Dollar General Public Relations Representative Angela Petkovic, “We are excited to bring a new location to Red House Road in Red House, Virginia. At this time, a grand opening is slated for late summer 2018.”

However, she said construction progress could alter the estimated completion date.

“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority. The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice,” said Petkovic. “We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10 minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”

Recently, Charlotte County has seen an influx in interest surrounding the location of Dollar General stores in the county.

Currently the Wylliesburg and Phenix community are also expecting the construction of Dollar General stores in the community.

In light of this, Petkovic said the stores will employ between 6-10 employees, based on the individual needs of each store.

The latest completion of a Dollar General store came in 2016 in Drakes Branch, while the towns of Charlotte Court House and Keysville also have Dollar General Stores in the county.

Previously, Dollar General’s Corporate Communications Representative Nolan Miles said Dollar General Stores also support literacy and education.

He said the Dollar General Foundation awards about $12 million each year to nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries within a 20 mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center.
