Randolph-Henry High School’s (R-H) varsity football team struggled to contain host Prince Edward on Friday night as the Eagles showed tremendous big-play ability on special teams and offense. They ultimately were able to pull away for a 56-12 homecoming night victory over the Statesmen.

“The biggest thing is we’re just young and inexperienced,” R-H Head Coach Zach Orlando said. “And if you go back and look at the first half, the opportunities were there, but when you’re giving up one-play touchdowns, it’s hard to answer, especially when you don’t have one guy you can just give the ball to and tell everybody else to get out of the way.”

The Eagles held a 27- 12 lead at halftime and scored on their first play from scrimmage in the second half.

Orlando noted being proud of the performance he saw from senior halfback Treymon Roberts, who continued to run hard in the fourth quarter and finished with 14 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown on the night.

Junior fullback Danny Parrish led the Statesmen with 20 carries for 103 yards. Sophomore quarterback Peter Jones scored on a short run.

Friday at 7 p.m., Amelia (4-0) hosts R-H, which has fallen to 0-4.

“The hardest part is getting the kids to understand that we’re still rebuilding, we’re still taking the steps forward to be a better team, but we’re not there yet,” Orlando said. “We’re the kind of team — I will give the kids credit on this — is we’re the team that we’ll come out on Monday and be able to put this behind us and have a decent practice, but it’s just tough.”
