Panthers win home opener

The Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) men’s basketball team jumped out to a big early lead on the way to a 102-86 home-opening win over Stillwater Christian on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers team came out firing as K.J. Reagans hit his third trey of the first half at the 12-minute, 41-second mark to give SVCC a 24-8 lead. A putback by Aaron Logan extended the SVCC lead to 37-10 at the 8:51 mark. A three-point play by Ricardo Sullivan gave the Panthers a 43-22 lead with 3:57 to go and the home team held a 50-31 lead at halftime. Sullivan converted a four-point play, one of two in the contest, with 16:19 left in the second half to give SVCC a 61-31 lead, and the Panthers cruised down the stretch to the victory.

Sullivan led SVCC with 34 points in the game, while Michael Jackson scored 25 and Reagans added 20. SVCC will host Thomas Nelson Community College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
