Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity wrestling team went 2-1 last week in a wrestling event held at Bluestone High School.

The Statesmen routed the host Barons 62-6, topped Amelia County High School 56-12 and lost narrowly, 42-36, to Nottoway High School.

“I thought the boys wrestled good — a lot of positives and also a lot to work on,” Randolph-Henry Head Coach Zack Mowery said. “… Billy French, Danny Parrish, Matthew Poling and Chandler Newcomb all went 3-0. Billy French again looked great.”

Randolph-Henry has a big challenge coming up next.

“We need a great week of practice to get ready for a two-day 28-team tournament at Turner Ashby this Friday and Saturday,” Mowery said.

The Statesmen will be part of a field of mostly Virginia High School League Class 5 and 6 programs, and Mowery said the team goal is to finish in the top 10 at the event.
