Panthers hang on for victory

The Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) men’s basketball team withstood a late charge from visiting Washington Academy to hang on for a 103-99 victory Sunday afternoon. “It was a big win for us against a good Washington Academy team,” Panthers Head Coach Dennis Smith said. The Panthers
led 48-40 at halftime. In the second half, freshman forward Aaron Logan scored with 40 seconds left, and sophomore guard Kenneth Reagans hit a free throw with 27 seconds left to help seal the win. Logan led SVCC with 20 points and 19 rebounds, sophomore wing Michael Jackson had 19 points and eight rebounds, Reagans tallied 19 points, freshman guard Ricardo Sullivan, pictured above, had 16 points and eight assists, Amp Harris recorded 11 points and nine boards and freshman wing Kamron Hughes had eight points and 13 boards. The Panthers (11-7) host Unique Academy on Saturday at 2 p.m.
