John William ‘Jack’ Chambers Sr.

John William “Jack” Chambers Sr., passed away on Monday, April 29, following a long illness. Jack is survived by his wife of sixty-two years June Carolyn Morris Chambers, a son Johnny Chambers (Anne) of Germantown, TN, two daughters Tammie Hall (Bruce) of Keysville, VA and Sharon Tucker (Bo) of Drakes Branch, VA, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Jack was born on December 5, 1933 in Red House, Virginia to the late Thomas Harold and Gaynell Reynolds Chambers. He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Harold Chambers, Jr., and two sisters Elizabeth Chumney and Dorothy Oliver.

Jack had a strong faith in the Lord and was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church in Red House. He served as a deacon, music leader, and choir director. He was a graduate of Randolph-Henry High School and a veteran of the United States Army. Jack was a merchant, operating several general stores around Charlotte County. He also worked as a rural letter carrier for several years before becoming the postmaster at Red House. Upon retirement, Jack enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening and cheering for the University of Virginia Cavaliers.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Providence Baptist Church, Red House with Rev. Reginald Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be sent to the Providence Baptist Church Mission Fund or the Charlotte County Rescue Squad.
