Between a forfeit Thursday by would-be visitor Prince Edward County High School and a 7-0 home win over Brunswick High School on Tuesday, Randolph-Henry High School’s varsity baseball team entered this week with a 10-3 overall record for the 2019 season.
Statesmen Head Coach Josh Barmoy noted that it was the effectiveness of two of his pitchers that led Randolph-Henry to rout Brunswick.
“Brenden Francisco pitched the Statesmen to victory,” the coach said. “He lasted four innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one.”
Coming on in relief of the sophomore was another sophomore — Noah Walker. Walker threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen, the coach cited.
“Noah Walker induced a ground out from Jo Hicks to finish off the game,” Barmoy said.
The coach highlighted how in the first inning, the Statesmen got their offense started, and an error scored one run for them.
“Winfield Layne, Carson Gibbs, Matthew Newcomb, Colby Jordan, Francisco, Walker, Matthew Harding and Tyler Case each collected one hit to lead the Statesmen,” Barmoy said.
Randolph-Henry scored early and late, as the coach noted how three runs were scored in the first inning, two runs were scored in the second and two runs were scored in the sixth.
After visiting Amelia County High School on Tuesday, the Statesmen host Central Lunenburg High School on Thursday at 6 p.m.
