Lady Statesmen win 5-0 in first round of regionals

Randolph-Henry High School’s (R-H) top-seeded varsity girls tennis team shut out visiting No. 8 Bruton High School 5-0 Monday in the first round of the Region 2A tournament.
The Lady Statesmen will play at home in the semifinals Wednesday at 4 p.m. against No. 4 Poquoson High School, which eliminated No. 5 Greensville County High School 5-0.
The results in R-H’s Monday win were as follows:
1.) Grace Algeier def. Alexa Woolson, 6-2, 6-2
2.) Eliza Walker def. Cathryn Hamed, 6-2, 6-2
3.) Kaley Moon def. Ashley Baldwin, 6-0, 6-1
4.) Mackenzie Sharpe def. Shenan Cole, 6-0, 6-1
5.) Pearl Sandridge def. Keely Sulfridge, 6-0, 6-3
In regionals, the teams play to decision, meaning once a team has won five matches, the match is over. Kiersten Dotten was ahead 6-5 against Ayanna Millner when the match was called.
