Samuel Alfred Layne, Sr.

Samuel Alfred Layne, Sr., 82, of Waynesboro passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Avante of Waynesboro.
Born January 17, 1933 in Red House, Virginia, he was the son of the late John W. Layne, Sr. and Lillian (Marston) Layne.
Living in Farmville, Samuel was employed by Newcomb Auto Parts and later after moving to Waynesboro he worked for McClung Brothers and NAPA Auto Parts. He was a member of Mid-way Bible Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lucille Layne; brother, Rawton C. Layne; sister-in-law, Doris P. Hendrick; brother-in-law, Clarence Wright.
Survivors include his loving son, Sam Layne, Jr. and wife, Charlotte of Stuarts Draft; three granddaughters; sisters, Ruth Layne, Ellen Engebrecht and Evelyn Conner; brothers, Claude Layne, Nick Layne, John Layne, Jr. and Jesse Layne; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Jeremy Woody officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Memorial Park, Arrington, Va.
Active pallbearers will be Adam Hall, Evan Hall, Jon Bush, Matt Paul, Ben Harper and Jonny Layne.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the funeral home.
