We have great news for the coming 2019-2020 Season. The work of the Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) Chorus and its good choral singing is being noticed and appreciated…and each singer, as instruments of an orchestra, are the important keys to our success. Because of the unfailing support by the leadership at SVCC, the SVCC Foundation has received a Virginia Commission of the Arts (VCA) Grant to be used as partial support for the SVCC Chorus’ 2019-2020 season.
We welcome all music lovers and singers to come and sing with the chorus. The first rehearsal will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the South Hill Presbyterian Church, 914 N. Mecklenburg Ave, South Hill. The SVCC Holiday Concert will be on Sunday, Jan. 5 in the afternoon. All music and further scheduling information will be available at our first rehearsal. All rehearsals are on Sundays, 6-8 p.m.. No rehearsals during December.
The concerts are widely received and venues are consistently packed by enthusiastic audiences. You may want to be a part of this organization, not only for its wide acceptance, but because you simply love to sing.
Your voice; just as each violin, trumpet, and flute, in an orchestra; can become a part of this glorious ensemble by simply coming to rehearsals each week on Sunday evenings. Through vocal techniques and gentle understanding, your natural voice will be brought forward, drawing out your inner song. Find your gift, your voice, your instrument, by becoming a part of this joyful ensemble with Carol Henderson, Director, and Sally Tharrington. Pianist.
The people who sing with the SVCC Chorus love what they do. And each voice has an integral part to play. Come and join with us and express your heart through song. There is nothing that can compare to this community experience. By coming on Sept. 8 you may find that you will come away with lifted spirit and a song in your heart.
Our partial support from the VCA and the National Endowment for the Arts (The Arts Endowment) for 2019-2020 season is a proud sign of our continuing effort to bring the best of the arts to the community. We are committed to our singers, to our audiences, and to the communities in Southside Virginia. Hope to see you there.
