On Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m., Lunenburg County Community Concerts will present its fall concert. Pre-concert piano music by Stacy Sharpe Branch will begin at 6:40 p.m. The performers that evening will be two talented soloists.
Ken Vaiden has been singing most of his life. From singing “America” while swinging in the backyard (not realizing the neighbors were listening), to featured soloist in elementary school programs and graduations, to most recently singing with the Southside Virginia Community Chorus. He has an extensive performance resume that includes the North Carolina Master Chorale, Lake Country Chorale, roles in numerous musical productions in Halifax and Mecklenburg counties and singing in churches and concerts throughout the region.
Peggy Vaughan has had a love for Gospel music and harmonies since she was a child. She grew up in a musical family and, beginning at the age of seven, she sang with her father and sister in church. Later joined by her brother, The Senger Family sang Southern Gospel locally for church homecomings, revivals, hymn sings and watch-night services, as well as for radio-rallies and other community events. Once the family could no longer sing together, she began singing solo with her autoharp or the piano. Peggy is married to Victoria native Charles Vaughan and attended Northside Gospel Chapel for many years until Charles accepted his present pastorate at Union Grove Baptist Church near Keysville.
Lunenburg County Community Concerts are free and open to the public. Victoria Baptist Church, the host site for this concert series, is located at the intersection of Eighth Street and Washington Avenue. Handicapped parking is available near the side entrance, as is elevator access to the sanctuary level. In the event of storm-related hazards or power outages, the concert will take place on Sept.13.
