Students in grades first-fifth at Bacon District and Phenix Elementary schools recently attended the Virginia Children’s Book Festival (VCBF).
This free event brings together renowned authors and illustrators with exciting dynamic programs to foster the enjoyment of reading among Virginia’s youth.
Younger students got to experience New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Todd Parr. His books deal with love, kindness and feeling good. They also heard Victoria Kann, author and illustrator of “Pinkalicious,” tell of how an April Fool’s Day joke was the inspiration for her book.
Older students heard Corinna Luyken, author and illustrator of “The Book of Mistakes,” reassure them that everyone makes mistakes. They also got to see presentations by Jay Cooper illustrator of “Bots: The Most Annoying Robots in the Universe,” and Johnny Marciano, author of “Klawde: Evil Alien Warlord Cat.”
The students really enjoyed their chance to meet and talk with real authors and illustrators. The VCBF Committee organized and provided this wonderful opportunity to the children, not only of our community, but to children across the state of Virginia.
