On Monday, Nov. 18, pre-K through fifth graders from Bacon District, Eureka and Phenix Elementary were privileged to attend a performance of “Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears” presented by the Virginia Opera.
Not knowing what to expect, all students were soon captivated by the amazing operatic voices of Goldie and the three singing bears. The message of this opera varied from the fairytale. Goldie had been told by her mother to stay close to home, but her curiosity for chasing after bugs causes her to get lost in the forest. The three singing bears have left momma bear’s delicious soup to cool when Goldie comes upon the empty cottage. She, of course, eats all of baby bear’s soup before meeting up with him in the forest. Baby bear tells her that his family has had a robber enter their home and eat their soup! After several humorous scenarios, Goldie remembers a lesson taught to her by her mother, that honesty is always the wisest choice. After confessing and being forgiven, momma, papa and baby bear help their new friend get home. Goldie agrees to share her problems with a trusted adult and to always tell the truth.
