Officers search for wanted person

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Department, with the assistance of the Virginia State Police (VSP), spent hours searching for a wanted individual in Charlotte Court House on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 21. The subject remains at large.
According to investigators with the sheriff’s office, a deputy attempted to serve a warrant on Shawn Wayne Martin, 27 of Burkeville, for failure to appear in court on a shoplifting charge.
Investigators say Martin was staying at a residence in the 300 block of Thomas Jefferson Highway in Charlotte Court House when the warrant was served around 6:14 p.m.
Martin fled the resident, and deputies were unable to locate him.
VSP was called to search for Martin via helicopter.
According to the sheriff’s department, the search ended around 1 a.m.
Martin is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes and clean-shaven.
