Charlotte County Dixie Youth and Charlotte County Dixie Softball have suspended organized activities for the time being due to concerns about the novel coronavirus.

Dixie Youth Baseball Inc. (DYB) announced Friday, March 13, it was recommending its leagues delay the start of the 2020 DYB regular season in an effort to help stem the spread of COVID-19.

“We request that DYB leagues suspend all activities that involve the gathering of individuals for games and/or practices until after April 4, 2020,” officials said in the DYB press release.

Charlotte County Dixie Youth (CCDY) will be granting this request, CCDY Commissioner Kris Tuck said.
“We’re probably going to just take it by what they send us,” he said, referring to DYB. “If the national directors pass any additional mandates, we’ll abide by what they say.”

He said CCDY did not have any games scheduled until April 18, so the request did not impact the league too much.
Officials in the DYB announcement added that due to the recommendation and request, DYB will adjust its regulations regarding tournament team eligibility for the 2020 season as necessary.

Charlotte County Dixie Softball (CCDS) will be suspending all organized activities until March 30, according to CCDS Vice President Scotty Hamlett.

“Basically, what (CCDS) is doing is the same thing the school system is,” he said. “If they open the schools back up (at) the end of March, then possibly we could start practicing and playing again. If they keep them closed, then we’re probably looking at the same thing, but right now, we’re following the lead of the school system.”
