A joint public hearing between the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors (BOS) and planning commission will be held Thursday, May 28, at 6 p.m. to hear public comments in regard to a conditional use permit (CUP) application by U.S. Cellular for the construction of a cell phone tower.
According to the permit application, U.S. Cellular is applying for the CUP for the construction of a 155-foot monopole cell tower on property owned by Blue Rock Resource located on Mapleton Road in the Madisonville area.
U.S Cellular applied for the CUP in January. A public hearing was originally set for April but was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and office closures.
The site is approximately half a mile from the intersection of Thomas Jefferson Highway near the Corner Grocery Convenience Store.
According to the CUP application, if approved, the tower is to be fully operational within two years of approval.
The BOS could vote on the approval as soon as their June 8 meeting.
