The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts has received a $7,000 grant from Wells Fargo towards the LCVA’s 2020 Strengthening Communities project, which provides essential educational and community-building resources to the community both during and after the current epidemic.

LCVA Connects – Strengthening Community Support Systems During and After Social Distancing benefits the adaptation of community and school programs to address social and educational effects of the pandemic.

The LCVA has been bringing art to the local community through digital and distance learning formats, including activity packets. The museum has already distributed several rounds of art activity packets this summer for surrounding schools and community centers. Additional resources will be distributed throughout the summer and fall.

Rachel Talent Ivers, LCVA’s executive director commented that “although we always look forward to the children gathering in the museum for art activities, this summer, due to social distancing requirements, the LCVA will be creating Art-on-the-Go bags and developing videos for the community for its traditional Summer Art Studio program.” The videos will be both story times, with various community members reading children’s books, and craft videos that members of the LCVA will lead.

Every two weeks there will be a new theme. The first theme, which began on June 30, will focus on Civil Rights and the community.

This method of engaged and collaborative program development serves as a model for the LCVA as it works to reimagine programs and delivery strategies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
