Charlotte County Public Schools (CCPS) Superintendent Robbie Mason announced Friday afternoon that, following a rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases this week, CCPS will now move to remote learning for all students beginning August 10.
Earlier this week Mason announced the school board had approved plans to open with students going two days a week and learning remotely the remaining days.
“After speaking with Piedmont Health District officials over the past two days, I found that Charlotte County has had about a dozen newly-confirmed COVID cases in the past week, with more tests currently being analyzed,” Mason said. “This increase in COVID cases is a cause for concern as we prepare for our students to begin school in roughly two weeks. Due to this increase in COVID cases, I have decided that we will open school on August 10 remotely for all students.”
Mason said remote learning will remain the only option for CCPS students through at least September 4.
“This decision is based on the need to keep our students and staff safe,” Mason said. “At that time, we will utilize local health data to decide whether we can safely implement our hybrid model of in-person and remote instruction after Labor Day. It is my goal to offer the safest educational options for our students and staff.”
