Dorothy Mae Hamlett Foster, 75 of Phenix, passed away on Nov. 13 with her children by her side. She was the widow of the late William A. Foster, a marriage of 43 years. She was well known for her love of baking for others. She also loved gardening and her beautiful yard of flowers. She never shied away from a trip to the beach or lake where she could enjoy the view of the water with her feet in the sand. She never met a stranger, always quick to strike-up a conversation and figure out if you were related. She loved spending time with her grandkids. She is survived by her four children; Sharon F. Metcalf of Pamplin, Robert A Foster, Sr. (Shelia Dove) of Timberville, Dorothy F. Parker (Stuart) of Mocksville, North Carolina and Charles W. Foster (Sherry) of Blackstone; one brother, Herbert Hamlett (Jeanette) of Evergreen; eight grandchildren; Ron Metcalf (Beth), Robert A. Foster, Jr., Rose Ann Davis, Walter T. (WT) Davis, Jesse W. Foster, John Parker (Jessica), Devin Foster, Danielle Foster; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Lottie Hamlett; infant son, Walter Thomas (WT) Davis; and six of her siblings: Carrie Leftwich, Joyce Harris, Jannie Sapp, Walter Hamlett, Jr., Jean Phelps, John Hamlett; and her beloved kitty Stewy. Funeral Services will be a private, graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Blackstone Volunteer Fire Department (318 Church Street, Blackstone, VA 23824) or Samaritans Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org). The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is serving the family.
