The landscape of area high school sports, which has been in a constant state of flux since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, has shifted once again with the announcement last week that Buckingham County High School would not be participating in rescheduled fall sports for the 2020-21 school year.
However, hope remains for Randolph-Henry High School (R-H).
According to the Virginia High School League’s condensed 2020-21 fall sports schedule, football practice can begin Feb. 4, and the first games can take place Feb. 22 and 27.
Randolph-Henry Athletics Director and Assistant Principal Christopher Holt said in a Tuesday, Jan. 19, email that Season 2, which includes fall sports, and Season 3, which includes spring sports, are still on the table for a Charlotte County School Board decision.
“We are working incredibly hard to continue providing in-person instruction for student groups,” Holt said. “Mixing groups for practice and play poses a health risk that could negatively impact that work. The school board tabled a decision on Season 2 until February due to students not able to physically return to school from winter break.”
Randolph-Henry is not participating in 2020-21 winter sports due to the pandemic.
