In an effort to clean up the county’s roadways from discarded trash the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors has designated April as Charlotte County’s litter pickup month.
To assist citizens interested in litter pickup, heavy-duty collection bags are available at all county recycling centers and the County Administration Office during business hours. In addition, the Administration Office has a limited quantity of safety vests and signs that can be borrowed.
Once trash has been collected, citizens many contact VDOT to pick up bag. To schedule bag pick-ups by VDOT call 1-800-367-7623.
VDOT also encourages the Adopt-a-Highway program in which participates can schedule one of their two yearly pickups during April to coincide with Earth Day or in the fall to coincide with the autumn Day to Serve.
The Adopt-a-Highway program provides an opportunity for families, businesses or civic groups to clean up litter.
VDOT established the Adopt-a-Highway program in 1988. Each year, nearly 18,000 Adopt-a-Highway volunteers collect more than 25,000 bags of waste along Virginia’s highways. It is estimated that these efforts save the commonwealth more than $1.35 million that would have otherwise gone to clean up Virginia’s roads.
