For the second year in a row, a senior car parade for the graduating class of Randolph-Henry High School (R-H) is being planned.

Friends and parents of the Class of 2021 have organized the procession that will be held on Saturday, May 15, beginning at 11 a.m. at R-H.

Students will be gathered with their decorated vehicles at R-H and drive throughout the county while citizens waved and cheered them along the way, concluding the parade at Southside Virginia Community College in Keysville.

“The seniors of the class of 2021 requested the parade again this year after seeing it last year,” parent Holly Skelton said. “We are making it happen for them since they had missed out on so much not only as seniors this year but juniors as well when the school closed last year.”

The idea was born last year when parent Wendy Rapole’s daughter Alyssa, a senior at R-H, was disappointed about missing out on graduation and other senior activities since schools have been closed due to COVID -19.

The seniors needed some type of closure,” Rapole said. “They have missed out on so much due to the pandemic. It is nice to show them that the community understands, and they celebrate their accomplishments with them.”
