To the Editor:
Every county in the commonwealth would benefit from having a leader like Gary Walker on their Board of Supervisors. Charlotte County is especially lucky. As Virginians, we often talk about the many ‘Virginia Gentlemen’ of yesteryear. The term refers to the many great leaders who have brought our commonwealth — and the country — to be all that we are today. Patrick Henry, himself a son of Charlotte County, and James Madison immediately come to my mind as Virginia Gentlemen. We can all think of leaders from our own communities who we may think of in this way. Too often, we reserve recognition of great leaders until after their time.
Chairman Walker leads a Board that is considering weighty issues pertaining to solar energy development. Each time I have visited with Charlotte to attend a board meeting or speak with residents, Chairman Walker has been a voice of respect, patience and reverence. Faced with many conflicting and charged opinions of constituents and fellow Board members, Walker is a near perfect example of a public servant and a servant leader. Walker is a Virginia Gentleman in my book. I would like to join Charlotte residents to thank Chairman Walker for being a gentleman and for serving the community with honor.
