The Randolph-Henry High School JV volleyball team had a successful last week as they sped past three opponents.

The Statesmen began their winning week with a three-set win over the Parkview Dragons. R-H took the win with scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 15-3.

On Tuesday, the Statesmen defeated Prince Edward on the Eagles home court with two set wins of 25-15 and 25-20.

They finished up the week with a victory over Buckingham with set scores of 25-18 and 25-16.

“We had two kills each from Grace Reynolds and Leighan Payne; four kills from Morgan Mason with great blocking skills at the net. Our two outstanding setters, Michaela Miller and Hannah Pasicuta have great serving skills; Miller had a 100 percent serving percentage scoring 15 points within the three (Parkview) sets and three of them were aces,” said R-H coach Shakema Wilson.

“Captain Hannah Pasicuta had a serving percentage of 94 percent, scoring 10 points within the three sets and four of them were aces. Calynn Trent brought to the game great passing skills from the back row, while Anna Pasicuta and Kelsie Letterman gave us great support from the bench due to injuries. The ladies weren’t able to play, but always give great team support.”

On Tuesday the Statesmen battled Prince Edward and Mason was Randolph-Henry’s top player of the game with impressive defensive playing skills at the net and five kills. Reynolds gave the team seven serving points within the two sets, and had two kills. 

“Reynolds is our smallest player but packs a strong serve and attack,” said Wilson.

Miller had a total of 10 scoring serves between the two sets. 

“Miller and Pasicuta both gave great sets that allowed Anna Grace Cary and McKenzie Sharpe to give us some good attacks and kills. The JV team played very aggressively and defensively in both sets,” Wilson went on to say.

Coach Wilson commended the girls’ hard work and dedication to the team.   

Thursday then came and the Statesmen continued to power through a strong opponent.

“Our third game on Thursday gave the girls a little competition but with hard work and team work we achieved another victory,” Wilson said.

Miller scored seven points with two aces in the first and second set, Pasicuta scored 11 points with six aces in the first and second set and Mason had six kills within the two sets.

“Our hitters Anna Grace Cary, Grace Reynolds, Mckenzie Sharpe and Leighan Payne had some very good attacks and good passes to the setter during the two sets,” said Wilson. “I am very proud of the girls and couldn’t have asked for a better group of young ladies to work with.”

The JV team will travel to Central Lunenburg on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game against the Chargers.
