On Thursday, Dec. 2, Phenix Elementary School held its annual Spelling Bee for students. After the homerooms held their class spelling bees, the winners participated in the school’s competition. Representing first grade were Adrienne Morton and Anthony Washington. Second grade spellers were Cassidy Berkley and Toby Spears. Third grade contestants were Leila Adams and Skylar Owen. Ellie Gilley and Ayvianna Davis represented fourth grade. Aiden Adams and Avarie Lipscomb represented their fifth grade class.
Principal, Danny Richardson, was the pronouncer.
Round 10 marked the elimination round when Ayvianna Davis was given the homonym “creak”. Ellie Gilley correctly spelled “knife” and “found” to be declared the winner.
Ellie and Ayvianna will advance to the County Spelling Bee in January at Central Middle School.
The guest judges were Barbara Martin, Frances Jones and Alfreda Davis
