Leon Saunders, 71 of Saxe, entered eternal rest on Friday, Dec. 10, at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston.
Mr. Saunders, affectionately known as “Pesil”, was born in Charlotte County, on April 30, 1950 to the late Eddie and Louise Saunders. He attended Charlotte County Public Schools, and at an early age joined First Baptist Church. He later joined Shiloh Baptist Church where he sang with the Male Chorus. He was formerly employed by Huss Trucking, Saunders Logging, GEP Transport and afterwards joined the family business and was a driver for Prosperity Transportation.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by a sister, Elouise Saunders Richardson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 49 years, Novella Saunders of Saxe; daughters, Claudette Powell (Nathaniel) of Randolph, Veronica Valentine of Chesterfield and Porchia Hummings (Marcus) of Alexandria; grandson, Chris Valentine (Heather) of Chesterfield; granddaughter, Toni Jones of Randolph; two great-grandsons, Brody and Jax Valentine; sister, Barbara Moultrie of Clinton, Maryland; two brothers, George Saunders (Gracie) and Joe Saunders (Patricia) both of Saxe; three brothers-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Graveside services for Mr. Leon Saunders will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17, at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, with Rev. Dr. Horace B. Parham Jr. officiating. Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. A mask is required for all viewings and services.
