William Hunter Hamlett “Puppy”, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Feb. 23. He was born on June 18, 1954 in Lynchburg to the late Emmett Linwood Hamlett and Beulah Nash Hamlett.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth Nash Hamlett of Buckingham and Gilbert Perkins Hamlett of Charlotte Court House.
Billy was a graduate of Randolph-Henry High School. He was a truck driver with his brother at GP Hamlett Trucking for several years and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a transportation operator. Billy was of the Baptist faith.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Crystal Holt (Chris) of Sutherlin and her mother, Patty Tyree; his stepdaughter, Tara Abbott (Chip) of Bedford and her mother, Donna Mayhew; two grandchildren, Heather and Dakota; four step-grandchildren, Kalyn, Blake, Austin and Bailey; four step-great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Wright (James) of Forest; brother, Emmett “Tommy”(Hazel) of Charlotte Court House and a host of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 6, at 3 p.m., at Salem Baptist Church, 1725 Harvey Rd., Charlotte Court House. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Brookneal. Crystal Holt, daughter of Mr. Hamlett, will receive friends at her residence, 7900 South Boston Highway, Sutherlin, VA at other times.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Salem Baptist Church, Charlotte Court House.
