Today our pastor talked about how farmers till rows before they plant. He talked about how we should be spreading the gospel and sowing seed everywhere we go. Thinking on his example I remembered the early church was born into an agricultural society. People during that time farmed or raised animals. Plowing and planting was a brilliant example the Lord used to explain what we need to do after we says yes, I want to be a Christ Follower. I took an Evangelism class in school and loved 10 ways the teacher explained how to follow Christ. Today we look at five.
Statistically, majority of believers rarely (if ever) share their faith with another unbeliever. Part of the problem is that there seems to be bad teaching that suggests it is a choice. It is not a choice. 1. If you are a Christ Follower, then you know from Mark 1:17 if we follow Christ, then we share our faith. Jesus not only preached truth but he lived truth as well. 2. As a Christ Follower, then you know we cannot simply share information and be done. We must live our lives in such a way, where God is glorified — in the way we live (Psalm 119).
People can get confused and think that sharing the gospel is a type of spiritual gift. It is true that God gave his one and only Son so that we could be with him forever. However, sharing our faith is not listed as a spiritual gift in the Word of God. 3. If you are a Christ Follower, then you know sharing the gospel is not reserved for an elite group within the body of Christ. The whole Church is called to share in and live out the gospel (Matthew 28).
At times there is a duty mentality toward the gospel. 4. If you are a Christ Follower, then you know sharing your faith comes from natural overflow. It is who you are because you are daily sharing in the life with Christ (Luke 9).
Looking at 5. We can clearly see that at times, there is competition within in the body of Christ. I am so fortunate that I do not look at my life this way (in any area). The Word does say we are running a race (1 Corinthians 9:24), but we are not running against each other. We are running to glorify God Almighty. The Church is called to share their faith. Everyone has the same running shoes.
As Christ Followers this week, may we take privilege to know what the gospel is not and share what it is!
