Founded in 1986, many people of Charlotte County don’t know what the Charlotte Learning Center (CLC) offers.

The answer may have changed slightly over the years, but our focus has always been helping individuals learn and improve their English language skills.

Reading and writing are keys to communication and self-expression. Adjusting and adapting to the needs of our community, we work hard to bring valuable and engaging content to your community.

CLC offers one-on-one tutoring in reading and writing to English speakers and English language learners.

We’re always on the lookout for additional volunteers willing to receive our free tutor training course to make a direct impact on the betterment of our community.

If you don’t feel you have the time to dedicate to an individual student, there are other ways volunteers can make a difference at Charlotte Learning Center.

Our workshops, fundraisers, classes, and awareness events provide opportunities for you to get involved.

July is packed with activities at CLC.

We have joined the 100 Mile Yard Sale with space for you to join in the event with us.

The Family Adventuring series, our new summer program involving creating a tabletop game, runs on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. until August 6.

Also, for anyone who has said, “I would love to write my own book and get it published,” we offer a wonderful set of workshops to provide overviews on what is involved in accomplishing this goal.

Additional activities are planned for the upcoming year. They include a Cook-Off in August, multiple tutor training sessions, our 2nd Annual Costumed FUNd Race, workshops on starting a business, building workplace and life skills, resume writing and interviews, and gardening topics.

In our classroom programs, Preparedness Homegrown recently started a community compost center! We’re learning about ecosystems, healthy foods, teamwork, and different methods of growing our own foods.

These skills are of great value and we’re having fun too. The partnership with the Charlotte County Extension/4-H office produced a great Basic Computers class and we’re looking forward to repeating and extending this engaging and informative program
