October is Reading Month at Phenix Elementary School. To kick-off the month, Mrs. Watkins, the librarian, made a video that was shown in every classroom. It highlighted the events that would take place throughout the month. The video featured two fifth graders, Tanner Holt and Ellie Gilley. Tanner wrote and read an acrostic poem, entitled Reading. Using the letters in the word, he told of different types of reading and gave tips if one needs help in reading. “The Importance of Reading” was the title of Ellie’s short essay. Using a powerful literary voice, she described how vital reading is in everyday life. Tanner and Ellie inspired each person at the school. Stay tuned. You might recognize a future New York Times bestselling author or a future Poet Laureate. Remember, read, read, read.
