When we look at the Word, we see clearly that God allows us the choice to choose or reject him. He does not make us follow him. The angel Lucifer and his followers fell from heaven. Originally, Lucifer, the highest leader of angelic beings, was created perfect (Ezekiel 28:14,15). But he chose to rebel against God. He wanted to take over God’s position, obtain his power and display God’s glory – but it was a selfish desire to lavish on himself.

He never intended to be loving like God is. When I read the Scripture, I think of the stories we learn as children about leaders who were bad. That is why he is bad. His rebellion led to his downfall, “How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12)

Many times, you hear people going on about going to Heaven and yes, Heaven is a wonderful place; but that is not the end all-of our faith. As we look at the Scripture, we see that the angels were in the right environment to live right. They were created perfect and lived with God, but some still chose to not to follow God. It is amazing after that rebellion that God would still choose to “choose” us; even though we had not yet chosen him. “We love because he first loved us” (I John 4:19).

As Christ followers, it is absolutely a wonderful thing to think about Heaven and know where we are headed, but it is a more glorious realization that this very minute we are “… in Christ Jesus.” “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Understanding that we have our being within Jesus and do not have to wait for Heaven, gives me such a boost each day! To know that God is truly participating in your daily life is phenomenal.

The Word teaches that the glorious angels fell from Heaven. Security is not in a place but in a person- his name is Jesus. “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). From the time we open our eyes, as we lay down our head to rest at night, and even in the midnight hours we are …in Christ. Be encouraged! No need to wait until we get to Heaven to enjoy God -enjoy him now.
