Tigers’ golf team ranks in Top 25

The nationally-ranked No. 25 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a second-round score of 296, and a third-round score of 288 on Sunday for a 54-hole team score of 886 (302- 296-288). That helped the group move up the leaderboard and finish eighth among 30 teams at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational played at the King and Prince Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Junior John Hutcheson led the Tigers with his 72-74-72–218 that tied for 13th individually among the 150 collegiate golfers, as H-SC posted the lowest team score of the final round (288). Hutcheson posted five birdies and 24 pars during his second and third rounds on the par 71, 6,515-yard layout as the Garnet & Grey moved up nine spots after standing 17th after 36 holes. He was followed by freshman Jack Barnes (77-73-70–220, T-20th), senior Tommy Bishop (72-80-73–225, T-53rd), along with juniors Rece Lott (81-69-80–230, T-85th) and Nick Rubino (84-80-73–237, T-124th). Barnes contributed six birdies and 25 pars during rounds two and three, Bishop had five birdies and 17 pars, Lott posted six birdies and 19 pars, while Rubino added five birdies and 17 pars.
Hutcheson also tied for second among the tournament field in par 3 scoring (2.83, -2) and tied for 19th in pars (35). Bishop tied for 11th in par 3 scoring (3.00, E) and tied for 18th in birdies (9). Barnes tied for 12th in par 5 scoring (4.67, -3), and his final round of 70 was third-best of the round. Lott’s second-round 69 tied for seventh-best of the round.
