Red Door 104, in Farmville, is making a call to artists for entries to Familiar with Farmville, a juried competition of artwork that tells a story about the community. Entries to the competition of two-dimensional media will be accepted between June 16-Aug. 1.
A juried competition, artworks will be selected from all entries and shown at Red Door 104 Gallery from Sept. 30-Nov. 30. One of the finalists will be chosen as the grand prize winner and another as the second place winner.
“The competition focuses on subject matter that highlights life in present day Farmville,” said gallery owner Audrey Sullivan. “Only two-dimensional artwork in any medium can be used to dramatically portray the mood and vibrancy of the town’s people, places or things. Artwork, whether the subject matter is of a building, particular street, a person or object transformed to an image, should represent your experience and/or perspective of the community.”
Sullivan added, “Our goal is to attract and show images created by artists inspired by their experience and contact with the community. We hope to attract entries from local and regional artists to help tell us about the Farmville they know.”
This competition is open to artists 18 years and older; the entry fee is $25 for as many as three images. Complete guidelines for submitting entries is posted at www.reddoor104.com/entries. A printed copy is available at Red Door 104, 104 North Main Street, Farmville, Va. 23901, during regular business hours.
Moving closer to the competition dates, the judges’ names and credentials will be announced.
