R-H girls tennis brings in accolades, titles

The Randolph-Henry High School girls tennis team claimed the Courthouse Conference 37 Championship for the third year in a row on Thursday. The next day, Meredith Feinman earned the Conference Player of the Year honor for the third consecutive season, and she and Couper Webb became the Conference Doubles Team of the Year for the second straight year.
Head Coach Lindsay Webb was named Courthouse Coach of the Year, which she shared with Murrie Bates for his commitment of time, instruction and support of the team again this year.
The Lady Statesmen hosted the Lady Knights of Buckingham County on Thursday to decide the conference championship and compete for home court advantage in the first round of regional competition. In a match played to decision, the Statesmen came out on top 5-0 to claim the conference title. The Statesmen will host Glenvar in the first round of the Region 2A West competition on Memorial Day.
Randolph-Henry hosted the final round of the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles conference tournament on Friday to determine players of the year and regional berths. As regular season leader at the No. 1 seed, Feinman earned a bye in the first round. Earlier in the week Lauren Lawson of Appomattox County defeated Buckingham’s Shiflett. In a best-two-out-of-three set format and with the support of her teammates, Feinman defeated Lauren Lawson 6-1, 6-1 to earn the Player of the Year honor and a spot in regional competition at Virginia Tech on Tuesday.
Webb/Feinman defeated Shiflett/Ayala 6-0, 6-1 to earn a spot in regional play at Virginia Tech on Wednesday, June 1.
