Phyllis Mae Cobb AtkinsPhyllis Mae Cobb Atkins, 93 of Cullen, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, Oct. 10. She was born on Aug. 29, 1931 to the late John Beach and Virgie Etta Berkley Cobb.

She was the beloved mother of four children: Jackie Atkins of Cullen, John Atkins (Donna) of Goode, Vicki Atkins Tangerman of Appomattox and Connie Atkins Barksdale (Bruce) of Red House. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, Ryan Atkins, Brandon Tangerman, Stephen Tangerman, Katherine Dawson, Carrie League, Kelsie Crenshaw, Morgan Bennett and Kevin Atkins, and eight great grandchildren, Grayson, Scarlett, Isaiah, Bennett, Lane, Vivian, Henry and Blair. She had numerous nieces and nephews who also meant the world to her. Phyllis was the leader, counselor, prayer giver and matriarch of her family and they were her greatest treasure. The void she leaves can never be filled.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, M. Jackson Atkins. They are now joined in Heaven and are sitting together with their Holy Father.

She was a dedicated member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, where she served faithfully. She loved her church family and enjoyed serving wherever she was needed. Because she was very passionate about cooking and making bread, she was always the first to deliver food to anyone suffering.

There are no words to express the impact her 93 years had on all those around her. She was one in a million and will forever be missed. Our hearts are broken, but we know she is soaring.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 14, 2 p.m., at Spring Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Family received friends on Monday from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Puckett Funeral Home served the family. www.puckettfh.com.
