A single-vehicle car accident ended fatally yesterday at 3:40 p.m. after Robert S. Carter, 47, of Charlotte Court House, ran off the right side of Route 658 in a 1995 Ford Mustang, striking a tree head-on, according to a release from Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne Geller.

Carter died after being transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital. The release noted he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Virginia State Police Trooper B. D. Meeks Jr. is investigating the cause of the crash.
