Three Red House men were indicted by the grand jury for a second time on June 8 after allegedly abducting and raping a female victim over three years ago on March 17, 2013. All three have been arrested.
Yusif Harris, 22, Kaseem Hashim, 22, and Jalaludin Conner, 27, face two charges each — rape and abduction with intent to defile, according to the General District Online Case Information System.
The alleged victim’s father made the initial call to police on March 27, 2013, over a week after the incident allegedly occurred. The victim was 16 at the time; Harris and Hashim were 19, and Conner was 24.
“He said that his 16-year-old daughter was picked up (in a car) at Walmart in Appomattox and raped by three guys near Red House, and then dropped off near Madisonville,” according to the initial incident report from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
The report said the alleged victim knew Harris, Hashim and Conner prior to the incident and was friends with another person riding in the car.
This is the second time indictments have been served regarding this case. All three were indicted for rape, without the abduction charge, on Feb. 5, 2014. After two years of hearings, a judge ruled Hashim and Conner’s rape charges nolle prosequi on March 9.
The grand jury then indicted Hashim and Conner for both rape and abduction on June 8 and added abduction to Harris’.
Rape, an unclassified felony, is punishable by a minimum five-year sentence, potentially increased to a 25-year minimum when the victim is three years younger than the offender or life when the offender is over 18.
Abduction with intent to defile is punishable by a sentence ranging from 20 years to life and a fine up to $100,000 as a class two felony.
Their trial is scheduled for Sept. 14.
