Mrs. Ruth Elam Brogdon peacefully returned to her maker at her home in Saxe, Virginia on Monday, June 27, 2016. She was born in Charlotte County, VA, to the late William H. and Mary J. Elam.

She retired from teaching in Charlotte County Public School System in 1991. Mrs. Brogdon was a dedicated member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. She served with several organizations such as the Charlotte County Retired Teachers Association and Southside Virginia Community College Board.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Brogdon, Sr.; eight siblings, Nannie E. Hunter, Willie L. Elam, Charles E. Elam, Marion D,. Elam, Ada M. Elam, Mattie E. Harris, Julia C. Elam and James H. Elam, Sr. Ruth leaves to cherish the loving memories of her life, two children, Oscar Lynboyd Brogdon (Montell) of Maryland and Gloria Brogdon-Grantham of Saxe; three sisters, Jennie E. Faulkner (Calvin) of South Boston,VA, Rosa E. Evans of Henderson, NC and Mildred E. Bailey (Joseph) of Halifax, VA; one brother, Otis J. Elam (Shirley) of Fairfax Station, VA; four grandchildren, Tanika Brogdon, LaTasha Hamiliton (Sheldon II), Oscar Brogdon II, and Shannon Brogdon-Grantham; one great grandchild, Sheldon Hamilton III; her many many loving nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and life-long friends.

Funeral Services were held 1 PM Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Drakes Branch, VA, with interment in the church cemetery. Services of Comfort were provided by Dupee’s Funeral Home of Drakes Branch. Online guest book condolences may sent to www.dupeefuneralhome.com
