R-H golf wins 2A East tourney

The Randolph-Henry High School varsity golf team won the Region 2A East tournament on Monday in Harrisonburg after winning the Quad Rivers Conference 34 tournament by 64 strokes on Sept. 26 in Clarksville.
On Monday, the Statesmen produced a team score of 306 at Heritage Oaks Golf Course, finishing ahead of East Rockingham, which generated a 313.
Leading Randolph-Henry individually was Matthew Myers with a 75. Evan Mason, the individual conference champion, shot a 76, Eli Moore recorded a 77, Gunnar Lacks registered a 78, Nathan Towery had an 82 and George Thomas Sandridge shot an 88.
In the conference tourney at Kinderton Country Club, the Statesmen shot a team score of 305, while their nearest competition, Greensville County, recorded a 369.
Mason shot a one-over-par 72 to earn the medalist honor. Not far behind him in score was Myers with a 75 and Lacks with a 76.
“Special appreciation to our players, coaches, parents and fans that have supported the 2016 R-H golf team this year,” Randolph-Henry Head Coach Kelly Powell said after the conference tourney.
The Statesmen will compete in the Virginia High School League Group 2A State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
