The Charlotte County School Board will hold a special called meeting Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the School Board Office, 250 LeGrande Ave., Suite E., Charlotte Court House.

According to a notice sent to The Charlotte Gazette’s office, the agenda includes a review of an unsolicited Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act, or PPEA construction proposal. Due to contractual and proprietary information, the board will convene in closed session under the contract issues exemption of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.

Early this year, the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors adopted guidelines governing its involvement in the PPEA. It did so in light of a proposed consolidated elementary school.

Last October, supervisors denied a school board request to create a 950-student consolidated elementary school at a cost of $24-$26 million. Shortly thereafter, the school board began looking at possible funding through the PPEA.

Although the school board will enter closed session, they must meet convene openly in order to vote to go into closed session. Any actions taken by the board must also be done in open session, following the closed meeting. The open portions of the meeting are open to the public.
