Defense improves for shorthanded JV girls

The Randolph-Henry High School junior varsity girls basketball team kept things close against host Bluestone High School on Friday and host Buckingham County High School on Thursday, but the Lady Statesmen fell in both games, 25-18 and 29-24, respectively.
“Defensively we are doing much better but need to get out of the block quicker (at) the beginning of the game,” R-H Head Coach Sandy Mayhew said. “With six players, we run short on legs down the stretch of the game, but these ladies are giving 110 percent every game. Turnovers are getting better, but (we) still need to improve in that area. Another area of improvement needs to be free throws. But overall, I’m pleased on how these ladies are doing. It might not show in the win column, but we are in each game with a chance to win.”
The Lady Statesmen host Amelia County High School on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and Cumberland High School on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
