A Charlotte County man won $77,777 after scratching a 777 ticket from the Virginia Lottery, winning the game’s top prize.
According to a Virginia Lottery press release, Edgar Lopez purchased his winning ticket from a Food Lion in Chase City.
“The 777 game is one of dozens of Scratchers available from the Virginia Lottery,” according to a press release from the agency. “It features prizes ranging from $5 up to $77,777. Mr. Lopez is the third player to win the top prize in 777, which means two top prize tickets in that game are unclaimed.”
According to the release, the odds of winning the top prize in 777 are one in 832,320. The odds of winning any prize in that game are 1 in 4.34.
According to the press release, the Virginia Lottery “generates more than $1.6 million per day for Virginia’s K-12 public schools. Operating entirely on revenue from the sale of Lottery products, the Virginia Lottery generated more than a half-billion dollars for Virginia’s public schools in Fiscal Year 2016.”
