Doing the right thing

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma roared upon our southern shores earlier this month causing massive destruction and leaving record-breaking devastation in their wakes.
In spite of their great power and ability to destroy all that was man made, what these storms could not do was destroy the American spirit and our love for our fellow man. In times of need the overall goodness and kindness of Americans everywhere comes to the forefront.
A fine example is the residents of Charlotte County who came together to help their neighbors in Texas. Some residents took up donations at the Food Lion in Keysville, others purchased cases of water, church groups raised money to send to Texas for the recovery efforts and some residents even took time off work, jumped in their vehicles and drove the 1,300 miles to Texas to deliver much needed supplies.
These selfless acts of kindness to help people in need, regardless of their ethnic background, their financial status or what side of the war their ancestors fought on were all put to the way side — where they belong.
What stands out and what we are left to remember is Charlotte County residents doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons. Job well-done, Charlotte.
