We have no doubt that the $6,000 grant from the AARP to the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity’s Charlotte County Chapter will do nothing short of help more families have access to adequate, safe and secure housing in our community.

We commend AARP and its leaders, along with those involved in the “A Brush with Kindness” program in Charlotte County, for working together and collaborating to help fill such an important need in our community.

The grant will be used to fund a mobile repair trailer that will be used for A Brush with Kindness program in Charlotte County, along with the purchase of a pressure washer, a ladder and small hand tools.

Officials said in an earlier interview that A Brush with Kindness was the only Virginia program to have been chosen for AARP’s first Community Challenge grant among 89 recipients and 1,200 applications across the U.S.

This demonstrates the hard work and dedication of those affiliated with Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity and their willingness to go the extra mile to meet the needs of our neighbors.

It’s our hope that this grant will result in more smiles and happy hearts — the kind which we featured in a late July edition of The Gazette, featuring a family that partnered with Habitat for their home in Charlotte County. The family of six received the first home in the county kick-started by the Farmville-based Habitat for Humanity.
