Randolph-Henry High School’s junior varsity (JV) boys basketball team started the new year the same way it ended the last one — with a victory.
The Statesmen defeated host Nottoway 43-37 on Jan. 3.
“We played well enough defensively down the stretch to pull the victory out,” Randolph-Henry (R-H) Head Coach Mark Heintzleman said. “We handled pressure that was thrown at us pretty well, which allowed us to come away with the win.”
Leading the Statesmen in scoring was Joe Simpkins with 13 points. Matthew Harding added eight points, and R.J. Bullock and Ryetwan Callaham contributed seven points apiece.
“We scored 15 points in the second quarter, which is one of the biggest quarters we’ve had this season,” Heintzleman said.
R-H (4-5) hosts Cumberland on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and visits Bluestone on Friday, also at 5:30 p.m.
