John Thomas Hamilton, 87 of Madisonville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nancy M. Hamilton. Born in Farmville, May 23, 1933, he was a son of the late Mattie Morris and John Braxton Hamilton. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Madisonville where he held various positions during his lifetime. He loved to sing in the church choir and was active in community choral events. John was a graduate of Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House. He was employed by Kyanite Mining Corporation for 42 years, where he retired as foreman over excavating operations. John loved working on anything mechanical and found himself working on neighbors’ vehicles and lawnmowers, much to his delight. He also loved his pets Noah and Ma Cat. John especially loved having breakfast each morning with his “main man” Barney beagle. He is survived by three children, William T. Hamilton and wife, Mary, Wendy Keller and husband, Bobby both of Charlotte Court House and Susan Dockery of Keysville; five grandchildren, Kathy Keller, Kristin Keller, Katie Keller, Joseph Dockery and John Dockery; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Jacob; and his caregivers, Connie Horton, Cindy Epperson and Karen Reamey. A funeral service was held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Salem Baptist Church, 1225 Harvey Road, Charlotte Court House with Pastor Donnie Smith officiating. Burial followed in Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery.
