George Albert Thompson

George Albert Thompson, known as “Pete”, took his final jump to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday, September 18, 2020 at Centra Southside Community Hospital. He was born in Charlotte County on October 30, 1947 to Lenora Gilmore and the late Charles Lambert, Sr. “Pete” as many knew him, was the life of the party and nobody was a stranger to him. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1977. The military was Pete’s pride and joy as he was a member of the Army’s elite, 101st Airborne Division, known worldwide as the “Screaming Eagles”. He received several honors, among which a Good Conduct Medal. Pete was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Lambert, Sr. and stepfather, Cullen Gilmore, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Lenora T. Gilmore; sister, Delphine Watson (Cliff); brothers, Roger, Ivan, Carlton, Vincent (Cierra), Ralph (Sharon), and Page (Sharon) Gilmore; half sister and brothers, Gloria, Charles Jr., Winfred, Lynwood, and Steve; uncles, Fred and Howard Thompson; aunts, Lottie Butts and Mary Rice; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, especially Lisa Traynham and Rev. Michael Haskins and friends. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. at Organ Hill Baptist (located at Grace Episcopal Church) in Drakes Branch on Friday, September 25, 2020. Interment with Military Rites at Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery in Amelia. Service of Comfort was provided by Dupee’s Funeral Home of Drakes Branch.
