A Charlotte County Public School (CCPS) teacher has been selected as Teacher of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Drakes Branch VFW Post 8902 sponsored instructor Chris Anderson for the VFW District 4 Award.
“My biggest motivation for teaching is to try and get students to appreciate history better and learn more about their own pasts/ancestors,” Anderson said.
Anderson has been a Charlotte County School teacher for the past 27 years. He is a History Teacher at Randolph-Henry High School, teaching World History I, World History II, and US/VA History and serving as the History Department Chair.
In addition, Anderson is an assistant baseball coach for the Randolph-Henry Baseball team.
Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars selects elementary, middle and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program.
Teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism are prime candidates for this award.
“Honestly, I was truly shocked when I learned about winning the District 4 VFW Teacher of the Year award,” Anderson said. “It is truly an honor to be recognized by the former service men and women.”
