The Randolph-Henry High School environmental science classes have begun building a new pollinator garden.

According to educator Erin Small, pollinator gardens are essential parts of the food chain because they provide crucial nectar and pollen to insects that will stay in this area to contribute to fruit and vegetable production.

“Students, staff, and important local pollinator species can now enjoy the smell of sweet lavender and fragrant lilies on campus,” Small said.

In addition to planting the garden, students created a trellis from wooden tobacco sticks and a bench.

The new pollinator garden was made possible with the help of the Charlotte County Farm Bureau, Extension Agent Joanne Jones, Charlotte County Master Gardeners, and the Virginia Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom Program for their donations to our project.
