In about six weeks, I will be off on a new adventure. In preparation, I have been praying for what to leave you with. It is important that every day we do for the Lord with all our heart. You are most definitely part of my heart and I have been so honored to share with you each week. So, I would like for us to journey together over the next few weeks, as we look at one of the most famous things that Jesus said in the book of John.
Nestled in Chapter three, we can see Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a prominent leader in his town, a teacher and member of the Sanhedrin (ruler of the Jews). I think it may surprise some that Jesus was witnessing to a religious leader, but He was!
Nicodemus sought Jesus out in the middle of the night, and he asked Jesus, “Rabbi, we all know you’re a teacher straight from God. No one could do all the God-pointing, God-revealing acts you do if God weren’t in on it.”
Jesus said, “You’re absolutely right. Take it from me: Unless a person is born from above, it’s not possible to see what I’m pointing to — to God’s kingdom.” “How can anyone,” said Nicodemus, “be born who has already been born and grown up? You can’t re-enter your mother’s womb and be born again. What are you saying with this ‘born-from-above’ talk?”
Jesus went on to explain and even asked Nicodemus how he could be a leader and not know the Truth. This led to one of the most rehearsed verses for most Christ Followers, “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.” (Msg)
Did you recognize it? Jesus said, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
As a Christ follower, let us know what Jesus said.
